Bodoni Font

Bodoni Font

Bodoni Font is the name given to serif typefaces first designed by Giambattista Bodoni (1740-1813) during the late 18th century and revived frequently since. These typefaces may be classified as either Didone or contemporary; Bodoni developed them further than John Baskerville did, taking his ideas of increased stroke contrast reflecting improved printing technology and more vertical axis further than was intended by this printing type.

Bodoni was an extremely prolific designer whose designs constantly evolved. Bodoni created a typeface with an overall geometric structure characterized by condensed serifs with flat and unbracketed serifs; his typeface featured striking contrast between thin and thick strokes in serifs with unbracketed serifs; overall it featured striking thin-thick contrast in stroke width and striking stroke contrast between serifs compared to their thickness, creating an interesting typeface design.
