Avenir Font

Avenir Font Adrian Frutiger, who was known as a perfectionist, created Avenir in 1988 after years of being intrigued with Helvetica as well as sans serif fonts. Speaking with Linotype, Frutiger stated it was his duty to design a linear sans-serif font that echoed Erbar and Futura; at the same time drawing on new knowledge and developments in stylistic fields in the 20th century.

Avenir refers to “future” or “avenir” in French and implies that Avenir shares part of its meaning with Futura; however, Avenir differs by having thicker vertical strokes than horizontal ones, an “o” which doesn’t exactly enclose itself, as well as short ascenders. These elements give gravitas to the typeface, and add seriousness to it; therefore, it can further be used to be used for texts as well as headlines.
