Didot Font in this specific context, is a group of typefaces. The term ‘Didot’ owes its origin to the impact-making and type-cutting French great family of Didot. The classification is known as modern, or Didone, possibly the most popular given its even balance of differentiation and unity, making it highly legible.
Of two primary Didot typefaces, the most famous ones were created during the years, 1784–1811. The English printer Firmin Didot (1764–1836) initiated the production of the type, carving the letter shapes and then casting them as metal type in Paris. In printing, his brother Pierre Didot employed the types in the same period. It can be said that his work of Art is La Henriade by Voltaire published in the year 1818.
In particular, the typeface continues the ideas of John Baskerville, such as further developing the concepts of increased stroke contrast and a more developed armature. The Didot typeface project an increased stress through development by the Didot family at a similar era with such similar faces as those developed by Giambattista Bodoni in Italy.
