Trade Gothic Font

Trade Gothic Font

Trade Gothic Font is a sans-serif typeface drawn in 1948 by Jackson Burke (1908–1975), who finally worked on different style weights from 14 till 1960 while serving as director of type development for Linotype in the US. The typeface is provided in three different weights and has triple-width options.

Compared to many of the other gothic fonts of the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries, Trade Gothic, like many other sans-serif scripts, is relatively a little wider and has certain inconsistencies that are not typical of the later sans-serif scripts, such as Helvetica or Univers.

This variety is popular with designers, who argue that it gives a character to the logo. It has thus developed several quirky traits; for example, in some digital fonts, the average weight is more compressed than the bold weight, which goes against the trend of offering a wider phantom for the bold typeface version.
